Files Seem Missing From Folder, But Search Finds Them There

Hi,

I've had a problem recently where I go to a folder to find a file, and the
file (usually many files) don't show up as being in that folder. They
should be there, because I definitely put them there.

When I do a search for the missing file, lo and behold.... search tells me
they ARE there where I had put them. I can go to the file I'm looking for
as seen in the search results, click "open containing folder", and when the
containing folder opens... there they are. But that seems to be the only
way I can find some of my files these days. This is annoying and obviously
time consuming. But not only that... I can't necessarily remember what
files I've put away for safe keeping until I see them.

I have Windows XP Pro. Any suggestions you might have would be welcome.

Have you checked to see if they are hidden files?
