Search with particular category name returns no results

I have a particular category, with several business contacts assigned to it,
that when I search (with Windows desktop search) with the category name as
the search criterion, returns no results. As a problem solving step, I went
through each contact in the category, removed the category, and then
reassigned each contact to a new category but the search still does not
return any contact with the new category name. By the way, if I sort my
business contacts by category, all the contacts with the particular category
are correctly sorted under the relevent category name. So it sorts by the
category, but doesn't return correct search results based on the same
category. ???

The search is for data within the contact record. I don't think it will
find the categories since they're not really a part of the data.

Thanks for the response. Very helpful. So is there a way to search by
category. I have spent a little effort categorizing my BCM contacts for the
purpose of better being able to find them. Although it is nice to be able to
sort by them, it would be a useful BCM feature to be able to search by
category. Also, it is interesting that the search engine has a feature that
allows you to conduct a search by category (why have it there if it doesn't
work?)

Lon- I did some more checking into this and it turns out you are incorrect.
I conducted the same search but with a few different categories, and the
search worked intermittently. That is, it correctly found contacts assigned
to some categories but not others. In other searches, it found some of the
contacts assigned to a given category but not others. Its very glitchy and
annoying.
