Search from the title bar - problem

G

Guest

I've recently reinstalled Windows Xp (SP2) and when I've tried to change the
search settings I just can't find anything else besides MSN. To make it clear:
- I click on the 'Search' button in IE and then click on Customize and then
Autosearch settings - there is no other option than MSN.

Any ideas? Is it some new MS thing like the Research button in IE?????

Thanks

Hi solvent :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Can't customize search options

Download and run:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG to restore
your default Search functionality. You'll have to manually re-select any
Customizations you may have had, however

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

I can customize the seach option but, I can`t see any other option than MSN
at Autosearch settings - Choose search provider for address bar searches.
There used to be 3-4 other provider such as Google. If you can help me to
find out how to resolve this I'll be happy. Thx!

Hi solvent :)

Try the foillowing and see if it helps:

Unable to search from IE6 Address Bar

Check the Registry to see if this file is there. Sometime during removal of
hijackers or spyware files in the Registry can get corrupted or removed as
well. If not, try adding this line to this part of the registry.

(watch for the wrap, it should be all on one line)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]

To Restore Address Search Functions

Restore default Search functions:

In order to restore you default Search functions, download and run the
program below. You will have to redo any customized features you may have
added afterward.

This will restore the Windows defaults for a whole lot of Search related

CAUTION: BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST!

Close IE, copy the bold to Notepad, save as Search.reg (save as 'all files',
and doubleclick. Answer 'yes' when prompted to add the contents of
Search.reg to the Registry:

What Languages settings do you have? (Alt-T,O,Alt-L,...)

Try putting EN-US first if it isn't. (You get the most choices that way.)

The solution is to change the 'Regional Option (Standars and formats)' to
English (United States), I was using English (Australia). In the same time
the Location is Australia
I have to say this is horrible. How come a regional settings option
affecting my address bar search behaviour... I'm happy with Google don't need
ninemsn. Thanx everyone, I'll save your tips for the future.
