script error with HP all in one photo and imaging director

Help I get these 2 script errors (using xp home edition sp2 installed)

Line: 216
Char: 7
Error object required
code: 0
Url: file://C:\program files\
Hewlett-packard\digitalimaging\bbfe\director\director2.htm

when I click yes it says

Line 191
char 2
error: object doesn't support this property or method
code: 0

this just started happening on 10/18/05 - I made no changes prior except I
believe there was an update from Microsoft recently.

I can't get to my director to use scanner or any of the other functions - HP
of course has nothing about this particular error.

Hi Andrew :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced
Under the Browsing section check the box next to "Disable Script Debugging"
and
UNcheck " Display a notification about every script error."

also...

Update your scripting engine. For 2000 and XP go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en
The install includes a new jscript.dl

and...

Go to the HP All-in-one website and update your printer drivers.

As this is a recent problem, you might also try uninstalling and
reinstalling the printer software.

Have you installed any Windows or other updates, or other programs prior to
the problem starting? If so, try uninstalling them and see if that resolves
the problem. Then install one at a time and test to see which one of them
is causing the problem.

Hope this helps.

Here's what I believe the problem was -

Cumulative Security Update for IE for Win XP KB896688

This update went into effect (automatically per Microsoft's advice for
security updates) on 10/18/05 and that's when my problems started with the
script errors - these were touched off by several things - user accounts thru
control panel, Dell updates etc. I removed this update and the problem went
away. Microsoft CANNOT CONTINUE TO SEND OUT UPDATES UNDER THE GUISE OF
SECURITY THAT F**** UP PEOPLE'S MACHINES.

Understandable.....and I agree. Having had similar situations from time to
time, and spending days looking and troubleshooting to try to find what is
causing the problem, only to find that is was an Update that was installed
automatically, I disabled my Autoupdate. I have it set just to notify me of
any new updates, but, absolutely nothing gets installed, on my machine any
more unless I install it, and I know what it is and what it is for. That
way, if I have an immediate problem that is the first thing I check, and
uninstall, just to be sure whether or not it is the culprit. I also check
out the updates to see if they are really what I need, as some are for
Server and Network and such, which I don't have and don't need. Some have
caused problems as they can't find what they need on my system, and it took
me some time to figure out that they were nothing I should have installed
and uninstall them. I find I have far fewer problems since taking control of
what updates get installed and when. I use the same policy for maintenance
and other types of program updates. Nothing runs on my program unless I run
it, or know what it's doing, no auto virus or spyware scans,
auto-maintenance functions, etc. I

But....this only works if User follows through with installing the updates
as soon as they are notified.

Hope this helps.
