Screensaver does not always activate

We purchased a new Dell E6500 and I have a Microsoft Optical wireless mouse
that we use. When the receiver for the mouse is plugged in to the USB port
the screen saver will not activate unless I hit the "logo L" sequence for the
user logon screen. However, if I were to unplug the receiver from the laptop
the screen saver would activate after the timeout setting even if it was not
at the logon screen. And it isn't related to small mouse movement because
while the receiver was connected I took the mouse away from the laptop and
the symptoms did not change. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

Make certain the wireless receiver is not located anywhere near anything
electrical (e.g., modem; router; desklamp; radio; TV) and that you've got
the latest driver(s) for the device installed.

Do you use the Intellipoint Mouse control software from Microsoft ?

Normally without mouse movement the idle timer for the PC and the
mouse itself should enter a power saving mode. A wireless mouse uses
HID drivers so I'd check that the HID Input Service is running. With
the receiver removed the HID driver goes dormant. ( Both HID driver
and the associated Mouse leave the active device table )
