screensaver defaults to "none"

I use Windows 2000. I set my screensaver to 3D Text. For no apparent reason,
after a while it defaults to "none". I reset it to 3D text, but again it will
default to "none". Sometimes it takes about half an hour, sometimes less.
Tonight I had to reset it 5 times!
Is it a virus, Trojan, Worm? Help!!
