Screen Saver

I am having a problem with my mouse and the screen saver. I am using a
laptop..

I find that with the Kensignton USB mouse plugged in, my screen saver
doesn't work. And yet if I unplug it from the usb port, the screen saver
now works. As well, the mouse (when it is plugged in) wants to run the
'sidebar' down to the bottom on screens that have lots of data. I have to
unplug the mouse and use my finger to move the mouse around.

I wonder if I need a new driver or is something else gone astry..

Try; Device Manager>USB Root Hub>Pwr Management Tab
tick 'allow the Computer to turn off...'
NB There may be several 'USB Root Hub' entries

OK I have adjusted all the USB root Hub entries to have power management
turn off the screen. No changes in screen saver at the moment. I will
reboot the computer in a moment to see if this will help.

But.... I have to add that in additioin to the screen saver not working
with the USB mouse attached, the side bar runs out of control; all the way
to the bottom of the screen. So while trying to read the news group mail -
the side bar forces itself and all the messages to go to the very bottom of
the screen. I am than stuck at the last message and have to unplug the USB
Connector to move back to the top. I of course am put back to using the
touch pad on the laptop. That works fine..

So - if this further problem helps with resolving my problem, than I will be
very happy..

Yes you would need to reboot after altering Device settings

Re Mouse/Sidebar, I seem to recall that this can be caused by video drivers,
have you updated any from MS Update recently, if so reinstall drivers
supplied by your Laptop manufacturer, do NOT use MSUpdate for drivers

Well thanks for the tip on video drivers. I will have to check that out. I
hope this will work..
