Sorry, no. Take the laptop back and demand your money back.

I have exactly the same problem. Just purchased a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. Everything seems to work except the ScreenSaver and I think the Power down Management as well. It must be a software problem and probably needs a patch to fix it.I will get onto Dell next week but not sure how helpful they will be. If I find out the cause I will let you know if I have your Email address.

Can you tel me how to find the update you mentioned? I installed Vista Home
Premium on my Dell with the Dell installation disk tool and cannot get any
screensavers to work.

Oldman,

I found the update you recommended, installed it and now my screen saver
function works. Thank you very much. It was listed under an "optional"
update, thus whenever I did rutine updates it was omitted. MS should make
this a regular update - if they had, I could have saved several hours of
frustation.

Not true, it is a known problem with Vista and a wireless mouse, even with a
MS wireless mouse. Great beta testing Microsoft !!!!!
