screen resolution

Hi, nearly every time i start up my computer the screen resolution goes to
pot! I get a message to ask if i want windows to automaticly sort this out
but it doesnt. I have tryed the troubleshooter for this problem and no
change.Can anyone tell me why this keeps happening and how can i stop it from
happening. I do shut down my computer in the proper way so its not that.

assembled it yourself), video card and monitor.

Most important: are you running the latest drivers for your graphics card?
