Screen Resolution

I have a problem with my screen resolution. I did the
automatic updates and my screen resolution changed. The
icons are now very big. I cannot view any pictures as
they appear very hazy. When I turn on my computer it
tells me that my resolution is off and asks if it should
automatically fixes it, I click yes but nothing happens.

I have tried to change the display settings my nothing
changes. My screen resolution is at 800x600 pixels with
the color quality at the lowest (4bit). I have a compaq
7500 Color Monitor on NVDIA GeForce4 MX 440.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

You probably installed drivers for your videocard from Windows Update.
Most techs, including me, do not recommend installing drivers from
Windows Update. You can roll back the driver for the videocard from
Device Manager or just install the latest drivers from Nvidia.

Thanks,

I am not sure where I would find either the device
manager or roll it back. Sorry I am pretty basic when it
comes to the computer. When I did the automatic update.
it did install NVIDIA Display Software update released in
July 28.

Appreciate the help.

To roll back your video driver, go to Control Panel, open "system", pick
the hardware tab, and then click on "Device manager". Expand the display
adapter (click the "+" mark, and then highlight your NVIDIA entry. Right
click that entry and pick "properties". On the next screen, pick the
Drivers tab. There you'll see "Roll back Driver". Do it.

Thank you, I followed your steps and it seemed to work
except that any pictures and graphics that I view are
still grainy and hazy. Is there something else I should
do?

If rolling back the driver didn't work, then go to www.nvidia.com and
from there to the Drivers section and download drivers for your
videocard. Read the installation instructions.
