Screen resolution

I just got a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop from work to use at home. I am trying
to decrease the screen resolution so that the display is larger. But when I
decrease the resolution in Display settings, the display just shrinks to
about 1/4 of the full screen and the fonts and icons are no bigger than at
full resolution. Any solutions to this problem?

Sorry, I think you're screwed. Dell + Windows = 2 strikes. One more strike
and you're out. Good luck to you, though.

You're a real idiot. You should take your childish sour-grapes attitudes
and cram them back where they belong.

Since it's a new machine, call Dell Support. They should be able to help
you with that and then you'll know how to change such things in the future,
too.
It's also possible you have a hardware problem which needs attention, so
take afvantage of the free support while it's there; Dell is great about
change-outs.

It's probably a setting in your video drivers or you chose a setting that
isn't compatible with your monitor, etc.. There could be a lot of different
things and they're confusing to relative newbies since Dell places "shells"
around things that people aren't used to.

While you have Support's attention, be certain to check out that you know
how to restore your machine to its original configuration if you don't
already know it for sure. That's another one can catch people unawares.

Is it an Nvidia graphics card? If so, it might be a "scaling" issue.
Have a look in the Nvidia Control Panel | Display | Flat Panel Scaling
section and see if you have it set to "No scaling".
