Can't increase the screen resolution after an XP reinstallation

Hi, I just reinstalled XP Home (2002) onto my Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop
yesterday, and for some reason this decreased the monitor resolution to
640x480 pixels (huge icons), and it will not let me adjust this under
"Display Properties" > Settings. I've been onto the Microsoft Support and
trouble shooting page, but their suggestions aren't working (e.g. under
Display Properties > Settings tab > Advanced > Monitor tab, the "Properties"
button is grayed out; and under Adapter tab > Properties > Driver tab there
is no "Update Driver" button, just "VgaSave" information). I've tried to run
the "Drivers and Utilities" CD from Dell, with no luck. To make things more
frustrating, I've tried to get online to get all of the pertinent updates
from Microsoft, but my DSL provider (Verizon) requires a higher screen
resolution to set the DSL up!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Hi J,
I think you didn't install the Video Driver on your Laptop or the correct
one,try to go to Device Manager by Right Click --My Computer ---- Hardware
Tap --- Device Manager and see what disply driver installed and function, if
you have Floppy for the Driver try to install from there or select it from
the Available Drivers on Windows
Hope this helps
please write back here

Hi nass,

Thank you for the help. It turned out to be something even simpler than
that. I had just assumed that XP would automatically run the Dell Drivers CD,
but it didn't, and I just installed things from the CD manually. That's
something you only have to learn once! Thank again for you help.

Install the correct video drivers for your OS/PC.
