After downloading some updates it was noticed the screen
now refreshes totally and quite noticably at random
intervals. How can I fix it? Thanks.

Did any of the updates include a display driver update. ?
Did the screen resolution change after applying the updates?
Check the current refresh rate

control panel/display/settings/advanced/monitor

What is the current monitor refresh rate set to?

If its below 70Hz raise it, mine runs at 100Hz but it depends on your
monitor, the faster the better, as this reduces flicker. However don't go
mad, because you can damage the monitor. It should say in the monitor
manual, or even on the back of the monitor what refresh rates it tolerates.

If raising the refresh doesn't fix it, you could try reinstalling the vga
adapter driver,

control panel/system/hardware/device manager/click plus sign next to
display/right click adapter/click properties/click driver/click uninstall

then reboot. It should reinstall automatically.
