Screen not operating

I am running XP home edition on Dell laptop. When I switch on the windows
logo comes on but as the system is loading the screen goes blank and I do not
see the welcome screen and no icons. Nothing can be seen on the screen.
Everything works perfectly in safe mode. Have tried restoring to a date when
systems worked but this did nothing. Are there any suggestions.

This may not be the best solution but may be a type of "fix"...

Go back to safe mode and create another user account that has administrator
privileges. Restart and see if the welcome screen now appears.
