scanpst error

When running scanpst.exe on my Outlook.pst file, I get the following message
after phase 5 (perhaps after phase 6, but it goes by so quickly I can't tell):

"An error has occured which caused the scan to be stopped. No changes have
been made to the scanned file. [OK]"

So, now I have a corrupt Outlook.pst (who knows why?) and scanpst.exe is not
capable of fixing the problem. What are my options? What must I do to have my
email back again?

Thanks for reading, I would be grateful for your help.

Alternate Scanpst.exe with Scandisk.exe or another disk utility 3-4 times. If the problem is with the underlying disk, that should resolve it.

Thank you for your reply! I have been doing as you have suggested over the
past few days without success. If you have any further advice I would
appreciate it. In case it helps, here are the last few lines from the log
that scanpst.exe has created while scanning my pst file:

**Attempting to validate header NID high-water marks
**Beginning PST/OST recovery
**Attempting to recover all top-level objects
!!Folder invalid high-water-mark (nidi=2983, nidiHigh=2A2F)
**Attempting to walk all folders
!!Hierarchy Table for 122, row doesn't match sub-object:
irow = 0, RowID = 2223
!!HN (nid=808E) cFree greater than cAlloc (78 vs. 0)
Fatal Error: 80040900

Thanks for reading!
