scanpst.exe error

all of my inbox folders, messages and contact info have disappeared. Outlook
suggested running Inbox Repair Tool. Ran scanpst.exe and proceeded through
phase 4 of 8, then scan stopped with error. Any idea what to do next? I'd
hate to loose all the data and contact info. Outlook.pst file is over 2G in
size.

Before you do anything, go to File, Open and see if Outlook can find & open a
different pst file. You might have closed your own personal file somehow.

Used crop to automatically trim pst from 2.06192 GB down to 2.048176 GB, then
Inbox Repair Tool successfully fixed error in file. However, lost all emails
in old Inbox, while old Outbox and filed emails in folders were recovered. Is
there any way of recovering part of this? There were lots of emails in the
old Inbox, I don't see how all of it would be gone if only 13744 KB was
trimmed from the pst file. Any suggestions?

thanx

Since you should still have your original PST (you did save a copy of it
prior to trying to fix it, didn't you?), try truncating a larger portion of
it and see what scanpst does. You can then open that PST with File>Open and
see if a different set of data was recovered.

If the pointer to the Inbox location in the PST was part of that trimmed
data, it's easy to understand why the entire folder might be gone. If there
no longer is any address to the folder in the PST, scanpst can't recover it.

When I used the 2GBPst.exe file to trim, everything was automatic. How do I
get it to truncate a larger portion of the file?

I think that each time you run it on the same PST, it will truncate more.
