Seems I should know this, but I don't.
Are CDs and DVDs susceptible to viruses and spyware?

There are anti virus News Groups specifically for this type of discussion.

alt.comp.anti-virus

Yes. They could easily be burned to CD an/or DVD media. Data is data.

Only if you write to one.

Having and spreading them?
Sure. If it is media - it can have things written to it - and if it is set
up right and your system has "autoplay" turned on - all sorts of interesting
things could happen.

Yes, CDs, DVDs, diskettes, hard drives, thumb drives, zip drives, tapes,
etc. are all susceptiple to viruses, spyware and other forms of malware.

They are all media on which files can be written, and files can contain
malware.
