I used to have no problem at all using my DVD+/-RW drive for burning CDs and
DVDs, and it used to play DVDs perfectly. Autorun worked normally.
Last week, after inserting a DVD movie my computer locked up and crashed.
Since then, I have not been able to play any DVDs, and when ever I insert a
CD with autoplay content, I get an error warning such as: "AutoPlay Menu
Studio 3.0 Runtime has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." or something similar like "install.exe has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience." I can still read data off of CDs and data DVDs.
When I insert a movie DVD that has autoplay content such as Interactual
content, I will get the same error warning. Opening up a DVD player and
trying to play the DVD doesn't do anything either.
So far I have uninstalled all DVD playing and decoding software including
windows media player. I reinstalled it all, including directx 9. This
didn't do anything. Since the drive physically worked before, and the
problem isn't isolated to DVDs (since CDs don't autoplay and can't run some
programs on CDs) I don't think it's a decoder problem. Something must have
been done to some windows setting or corrupt some .dll or driver (i have
reinstalled the drive's drivers as well).
Any ideas? Thanks~
