Playing DVDs Heeeeelp

I have an LG dvd rom and am yet to be able to play DVDs
What do I need to do, I have had the following tips

1. Open My Computer icon on desktop, then rightclick your DVD-Ro
drive and click Properties>AutoPlay tab and select your action t
perform

DID THIS AND IT KEP GOING BACK TO A SETTING TO PLAY MUSIC FILES


2. Also, DVD - Enable DVD Player in Media Player
This setting allows you to use Microsoft Media Player to Play and Ope
DVDs.

3. Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Settings
Value
Name: EnableDVDUI, Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value), Value Data: ye
or no.
Create a new string value called "EnableDVDUI" and set it to "yes" t
enable DVD functionality.

Still no luck, what is wrong?

Windows does not have native ability to play DVDs. You need to install a
third party DVD player in order to play DVDs on your computer DVD drive.
Your drive came with a sick that has some type of DVD software on it. You
need to install that software.

For future reference, I would suggest that when you buy a new piece of
hardware, you take the time to read the Owners Manual that came with it.
Owners Manuals are not include in the box as padding, nor are they added to
increase the weight of the package. They are included in the package so
that you may read instructions and information related to the device you
just bought.
It will save you all the time you have wasted on a wild goose chase. It
will save you the time of posting in a group like this and then waiting for
an answer.

The words 'pompous' and 'prat' come to mind. Try as I might, I can't find
any reference even to the installed DVD player in my so-called manual for my
brand new Fujitsu-Siemens. Sysinfo tells me I have a CD player, but I can't
find that either. I have no manual or paperwork for the DVD player, which,
like the OS, was preinstalled. Nor have I got a manual for the motherboard,
although there may be one in the pdf manual, if only something would tell me
which of the forty motherboards is the one in my machine. I don't have a
sick, either, whatever that may be.

I've always built my own PCs, and it is a revelation to me to find how
little useful documentation you get with a ready made machine, even to the
extent that most of the BIOS access is disabled in case you dare to alter
it. But then I won it in a competition, so I can't really complain.

Davidc is looking for helpful advice, not sarcastic remarks from someone who
apparently doesn't live in the same world as the rest of us, where manuals
are thin on the ground, and rarely contain accurate references to the actual
piece of hardware they came with.

Thanks to David Kelsey, No thanks to "Booby, sorry Bobby". I wil
battle through this, just as I have had to battle through othe
hassles with help from dude like David Kelsey. I am sure I could fin
a few things in "booby's" life which are not quite up to scratch bu
then again I am a decent human being

If you are going to own a computer, you need to be willing to read the
manual(s).

This is a peer to peer support newsgroup, and I gave you an answer. I was
trying to teach you that the answer you needed was in your grasp all along.
You missed the point. It is your loss, not mine. By handing you an answer
on a silver platter instead of teaching you how to find the answer, laziness
was promoted. I know you do not have the intellectual capacity to
understand that. Maybe someday you will. I won't resort to making fun of
your name, because I do not know what kind of person you are (other than
someone too lazy to check the manual, and someone willing to make fun of
someone's name that you have never met.

I don't doubt you are "decent". Sad part is that you'll never understand
that I was trying to do more than just hand you something. I was trying to
help you learn something. I failed. You got an answer, but not necessarily
the best one. You have not learned anything. Read my response again.

Your ?advice? was obviously lacking for that poster. Just try and be happy
that you tried to offer ?help? in your own way, and leave it at that. Your
attempt at insults paint a fairly clear picture of what you are like, and

First, there were no attempts at insults. I wanted the poster to think
about what I posted.

I offered him a way to fix his problem. It was not easy enough for him.
Instead he preferred to wait until someone did the work for him. I wanted
him to look in the documentation that came with the hardware in order to fix
his problem. That does not make me or the OP a bad person. He just took
offense that I would not just give him the answer instead of showing him how
to find the answer for himself. I do not tolerate laziness from my
children, or those that work for me. I should not tolerate laziness from
someone seeking assistance from me either. If I can show someone how to
find an answer themselves, then I have accomplished something. If I just
give them the answer, they will not have learned anything.

You do not know me, and I do not know you. I have no indication of your age,
nor do you have any inclination of my age. You comments about being an
adult have no relevance to this discussion.

My character is no concern of yours nor anyone else for that matter.
Suffice it to say that if you knew me, you would know just how wrong you
are. But then again you missed the entire point of the very thread you
responded to, so if fits, just as my comments about the OP fit the post he
made.
