No Sound with Homemade DVDs in Windows Media Player

This forum sure helped me before with a problem in Windows so I'm giving
this one a try. I have XP with ServicePack 2, 1 gig ram, a SB Audigy
DF80 sound card, and Windows Media Player ver. 10.
I can play all commercially bought DVDs in Media Player with no
problems, but when I try to play DVDs made with Pinnacle Studio Plus
10, I get video but no sound. The DVDs play fine on my home DVD systems
and players, including a portable, but are silent in WMP 10. They were
burned at best quality, on DVD-R blanks.
I read a few suggestions online and one was to update my audio
drivers which I did but did not cure the problem. I also tried to check
my DMAs per a suggestion but I think they are OK as far as I know. A
solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Tom:confused:

try a regular DVD on wmp to see if that plays normally.. if it does..
then maybe it could be a codec that the player needs..

Thanks for the help NinjaGirl. I wanted to try WMP but it only offers
an option to open a file. How do I get it to open a DVD? Also, how do I
obtaobtain a codec? I'm nit to familiar. Thanks. Tom

I'm sorry, I didn't realize until now you meant Media Player when you
wrote WMP. One troubleshooting suggestion I had received told me to
open a small Windows video window which only opened files but not DVDs
as far as I could tell. I thought that was what you meant.
I have played many commercially bought DVDs with no problem as I
wrote in my original post. It is only the homemade ones that are the
problem. Thanks again. Tom
