Scanner software?

The software that came with my scanner requires a PhD. in scanology. Is
there a simple freeware scanner package available? Preferably with an OCR
module.

Which scanner? Which software do you mean? If drivers, i doubt you'll find
anything other. If you mean OCR, there are others, like Recognita,
Textbridge etc. If you mean picture editing program, then Adobe Photoshop,
Paint Shop Pro etc.
