Scanner software not running properly

I have used Smart panel with my 89 PC but after I upgraded to XP and
reinstalled my software including Epson 1260 I get the following message
"Unable to access the scanner because it is not ready or another application
is using it. Close all scanning applications."
I used to use Prestol Page manager and it is also installed and it works
though the TWAIN is ver 4 instead of ver 5
Any ideas?--

Thanks for your help.
I downloaded the TWAIN driver from the site you mentioned but no change
The TWAIN was ver 4 and I think it should be ver 5.
The Page Manager works OK apart from TWAIN being ver 4 but the Epson smart
panel still gives the message I gave in my first message
I want to make use of the smart panel in order to make sending photographs
which are automatically reduced in size for sending by email

Good news -I have now got the latest TWAIN driver working ok on my XP
