scanner problem

I am trying to install an Hp Scanjet 5p on Win Home. When I try install the
scanner, XP tries to look for drivers that are no longer on the computer.
That's because they would not install and I decided the WIA drivers would be
perfect. However, I cannot get the WIA drivers to install. I've tried
installing in Safe Mode as well. No luck. XP still looks for the HP drivers
I uninstalled and deleted the folder.
Any help would be great.
Thank you,
MoJR

Try installing the drivers from the HP Website rather than the software that
came with the scanner or the Windows drivers.

Bruce,
I tried installing the drivers from HP. I tried installing them without
going through the Device manager or Adding New Hardware. I received an error
message that there was no IRQ available and the installation aborted. I tried
updating the driver through Device Manager and Adding New Hardware and Add a
Device from the Scanner/Camera Wizard. There I receive a request for a file
that did not come with the driver set from HP. If I try to push on without
installing that file, the installation aborts. This is why I have been trying
to get the WIA drivers installed. However, I have basically the same results
trying to do that. Interestingly, when I click on Add Hardware, SP then sends
up a bubble saying it has found new hardware. It does this twice. The first
message says that the device is a C5110A Hp Scanner. The second message says
that the device is an HP Scanjet 5P which is the common referral. If I try to
uninstall the C5110A that XP tries to install on it's own, I gen an error
message that says the device can't be deleted, it may be necessary to boot
the computer. I even tried going through Safe Mode. No help.
The only idea I have from here is to try and repair the XP installation,
thinking that some necessary files are missing or corrupt.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
