Scandisk

In the past month, I've upgraded from Me to Xp. One
noticeable difference I have noticed is there is no
Scandisk in my System Tools. Is this correct? With my
last pc which was on it's last legs after 4 yrs, if
I "accidently" shut down the pc improperly, the scandisk
would kick in upon restarting.
Since having my new pc, it has only "played-up" once when
it wouldn't boot up - the problem was a card reader - and
then I shut the pc down improperly. When I plugged it in
and started again - after removing the card reader - it
started no problem, and no scandisk!!!
As a "novice" user, any help would would appreciated in
trying to resolve this "mystery"

Click on MyComputer>Click on the *drive*>Select Properties>Tools....It is
called "error checking".
You can also run it from the command line
Start>Run> type in "cmd" (without the quotes) and click OK
When the command box comes up type in:
chkdsk c:
<press enter>

Yes. The XP version of the tool is called CHKDSK. You can run it
from the Start | Run line.

Be aware that XP, as a journaled file system (NTFS), it doesn't need to run
scandisk (checkdsk) as often as Win98 did. In fact, in most situations, when the
user shuts down improperly, in most cases, the system wasn't writing to the
drive at the time.

courtney sends....
