The equivalent is chkdsk, and that is true for any version of XP (Home, Pro,
etc.). Issue the command by clicking on Start / Run and then enter "cmd"
without the quotes. After getting into "dos", type "chkdsk" without the
quotes.
Before beginning, shut down your anti-virus software, any screensaver that
is running, and anything else running in the background. Probably the best
procedure to avoid interference from background-running programs is to run
chkdsk in Safe Mode. To do that, just hold down the F8 key during the
initial stages of a boot, then click on the appropriate choice in the menu.
