Scan for Updates

I'm using XP Home, when I go to the windows update page and click "scan for
updates" Windows explorer hangs and becomes unresponsive. I do not have any
other known problems using IE, like downloading programs, attachments,
webpages, etc.
Any help appreciated.
 
Temporarily disable your anti-virus program, that may be the cause of it to hang. Make sure that after installing the updates you activate it again.
 
If you have a pop up blocker then temporarily turn it off and try again.

Failing that try going to Microsoft.com first and to the page via that
method as opposed to using the Windows Update from your IE browser - that
may sound unusual but this has worked for me in the past.
