New User. When I try to save "word" files on a CD, I have a problem. do i use
the autoplay function or burn it to the CD? when i try to add more
information to the CD i am asked to re-name the file. I have used floppy
disks and this saving stuff to a CD is all new to me. Plus, i am a wee bit
computer illiterate.

To save a file directly to optical storage, you need to install
packet-writing software, like Nero InCD or Roxio Drag-to-Disk. However,
you should know that this type of software has fallen out of favor
because it does not close the disc properly. As such, there is no
guarantee you will be able to read the disk on any other computer.

The safer way to save a file to optical storage is to first save it to
the hard drive, and then use Windows XP or your preferred burning
software to write the file to disc.

If you are trying to save your document directly to a disk while working in
Word, it isn't going to work, and you run the risk of corrupting the program
and losing your work. When done with the document, you save it to your hard
drive, and then copy it to your cd.

There is no need to save anything to cd, excepting for backup purposes
Nothing should be saved to cd that hasnt allready been saved to your PC

You're a moron. Are you using a community computer at the facility
you're confined at, or did you escape?

Actually DL is correct in his last line in that you should always save to a
hard disk drive in one form or another before copying to a CD or DVD.
Really the only exception would be for music CDs for video DVDs and the
creating program should have had the project saved first.

Please feel free to come back, once you've out of school, and learned how to
string a sentence together
