It is my understanding that to read and write from a CDRW on your laptop
you will need a program like InCD ( Nero ) or DirectCD ( Roxio ).

Any files on a CD are Read-only.

Copy whatever files, or all of the files, from the CD to the hard drive on
your laptop. Then do whatever you like with them. Then copy them back to
your desktop machine.

A USB Flash Drive is really handy for this kind of thing. You can buy a 1GB
USB Flash Drive for about $40 and you do not have to buy blank media for it.
