saving word 2003 files - date error

for some reason when I save a word document the date saved is wrong. For
example I saved a document today (9/13/09) and when I look at the list of
files in either "my computer" or "my documents" the date listed is 10/14/09

What is going on and how do I fix this?

Running XP Home edition operating system 5.1.2600, Word 2003 SP3,
