saving pics from email

When I receive photos attachments in my hotmail/msn email, I used to be able
to move the cursor over the photo, click on the disk icon and save my photos
anywhere. Now, however, when I do that, it only saves a generic .Jpg icon
and no photo is ever available. Other times it only gives me the option to
save in .bmp format which is bad because they are too big. Do I need to
change some settings or options somewhere? Help please, someone!

It sounds like your Temporary Internet Files are maxed out.

In Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options and on the General tab
under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files. Then shut down Internet
Explorer and restart it. You can also do this from Control Panel, Internet
Options.

Thanks for trying Patty. I've been looking over a lot of the older postings
and found a lot of people to have the same problem. I tried all of the fixes
suggested by you and John Inzer. I don't go through AOL or Compuserve so
that's not it. I tried deleting files and disabling "saving encrypted pages"
in the security options, and deleting downloaded program files etc. Nothing
seems to work. I'm running XP and I used to be able to save my pics, now I
can't. Don't know what has changed, but I am a little frustrated. One
interesting note. I forwarded the email with pics to a friend. He zipped
the pics and sent them back to me. I opened them and could save them. Very
strange. Why do I need a third party? ARGGHH!!!

You might try setting up Hotmail Access using Microsofts Outlook Express on
your PC. It should already be installed, you will just need to setup the
e-mail account which is really easy to do. When it downloads your photos you
should be able to save attachments. Let me know if this helps or if you need
any help setting up the e-mail account.

Terrific advice. I was trying to save some photos from the 'Net and they'd
only save in bitmap format and not in JPEG. After deleting all those
temporary internet files, I was able to save the pictures in JPEG again.
Thanks a million!!!
