Saving new images in graphics viewers

This is a topic I first raised 3 weeks ago in the thread 'FastStone -
how to create file?'

I'm returning to it, prompted by the recent update to FastStone and
Roger's positive comments about Firegraphics. I'm comparing several
programs' speed and simplicity for taking an image from clipboard and
saving it as a new file. So far, I haven't found anything to touch
IrfanView. Assuming no program is yet open, here are the steps I'm
taking:

IrfanView FS 2.27 beta 3 Firegraphic
--------- -------------- -----------
Open Open Open
Ctl+v Ctl+n Ctl+v
s Click bot left Ctl+Sh+s
Name it Ctl+v Name it
Save button Ctl+s FAILS (bug?)
Name it
Save button

That 3rd step in FastStone is particularly slow. Can anyone suggest a
better method please?

See my separate post about Firegraphic naming problems.

Also, note that if the clipboard happens to contain text, IV is the
only one that cleverly pastes that into the new graphics image.

And, of course, IV opens delightfully quickly.

Have yet to try others, such as XnView.

Sorry. I guess technically MS Paint is not freeware but if you are
already using Windows and all you want to do is save a clipboarded
image...

I think there are a _lot_ of applications that will provide this
functionality and as for speed, well, how long did it take to think of
and type in the name of the file? Probably longer than it took the app
to store the file. There are probably some better questions that could
be asked like:
- what formats are available to save the file in? (ico, gif, jpeg,
png...)
- for these formats, what are the available options? (compression,
filter type...)

No, here are the steps I think you need in MS Paint, to accomplish
what I described, equivalent to the other examples:

Open
Ctl+v
Alt+f+a (not Alt+f+s)
Name it
Save button
