Saving network settings

I recently created a wireless network between a PC running XP HE SP1 and a
laptop running XP HE SP2.
Whilst using the wizard, I was prompted to save the network settings to a
USB flashdrive. I didn't own such a drive at that time, but as I do now, I
wondered if and how I can still save my settings to the flashdrive?

If it's possible, how would I use the flashdrive to reinstall the network,
should I ever need to?

Having said that though, the SP1 machine has problems and desperately needs
formatting, and I then intend to install SP2 - will the old settings work,
or will I have to set up a new network after this has been done?

Thanks very much in advance.

Re-run the network setup tool and you should be offered the chance to save
settings again. After re-formatting and re-installing the second PC you
will want to configure the network the same as it is now on that computer -
changing the settings will likely result in a non-functional network.

No, the settings will be different because the firewall will behave
differently.

Even though the PC will be running Norton AV as before, and the laptop will
be using XP's firewall, as before?
Thanks.

Yes, but version 2 instead of version 1. The new one will be auto configured
to allow internal sharing whereas verison 1 was not set that way.
It won;t hurt to try and use the flash disk.

Run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard again, in Start | All Programs |
Accessories | Communications. Re-enter your current wireless network
settings and save them to the USB flash drive.

After formatting and re-installing, insert the flash drive to
configure the wireless network with the saved settings.

This only makes wireless settings, such as SSID and WEP/WPA key. It
doesn't make other network settings, such as workgroup name, computer
name, file and printer sharing, or firewall. Use the regular Network
Setup Wizard for that -- it's in the same folder.

No, the settings will be different because the firewall will behave
differently.

The settings saved on the USB flash drive can only be created on a
computer running SP2. They have nothing to with the firewall and will
work fine on the newly formatted and updated computer.

XP SP2 has two network wizards in Start | All Programs | Accessories |
Communications:

Wireless Network Setup Wizard (new in SP2) - configures wireless
settings: SSID and WEP/WPA key. Can save settings to a USB flash
drive.

Network Setup Wizard (all versions of XP) - configures non-wireless
network settings: firewall, workgroup name, computer name, file and
printer sharing, etc. Can save settings to a floppy disk.
