My Computer

I have small flashdrive plugged into my USB port (WinXPsp2) and someone told
me I could right click on My Computer and click Eject in order to safely
remove the flashdrive, instead of right clicking on the flashdrive's icon in
lower right of screen and clicking "safely remove hardware."
However, when I right click on My Computer (on my desktop) I do not see
EJECT. I see: Open, Explore, Send, Map Network Drive, Disconnect Network
Drve, Create Shortcut, Delete, Rename, and Properties.
However, if I just click on My Computer, a My Computer screen opens and on
the right side I see my flashdrive in drive E: and when I right click on that
I can then see the EJECT.
Why don't I see the EJECT when I right click on the My Computer on my desktop?
Is there something wrong with my computer or WinXPsp2?
Please advise and thank you.

Try going back to SP -1; SP2 has reportedly a number of glitches. I stayed
w/ SP1 till MS cleans up the error proned SP2!!!!

Think you were wrongly informed. You don't "eject" a USB device. the only
thing you "eject" is a CD or DVD.......

You can not just Right Cleick on My Computer icon! You need to first
select a Removable Drive in order for the "Eject" option to come out.
Eject on My Computer will cause XP. problems if you were able to
"eject" the XP boot drive (C:) or any other hard drives. the person
who told you this may have "missed" a step.

Alice,
Right clicking the My Computer icon is not meant to deal with individual
drives - it's a context menu for dealing at a higher level. Whoever told
you otherwise must have left out a couple details or steps.

Your computer is working as it should.

Better method to disconnect USB device is to LEFT-click the USB icon in the
system tray, and simply left-click the "Safely Remove....." message. Saves
a couple mouse clicks and movements.

SP2 works well! Most of the problems do not happen with SP2. They
occur because of programs that do not work in Sp2. Most of these
should now be fixed.

What glitches???? If you do not get Sp2 now, you will need to wait 1
year for SP3. I would not jump onto Vista yet!

What complete and utter bullsh*t.

I guess there are a few whack-a-loons out there that still thinks SP is a
bad thing...

These 'glitches' you speak of revolve around user ignorance and/or older
hardware and software that has not been updated (usually by the end-user
now - given the timeframe since SP2's release.)

What I am saying, Rudy, is that the problem is not SP2 if you are still
having issues - the problem is you and/or your lack of maintaining your
system in a number of other ways that you should be doing.

You cannot eject my computer, but right clicking on your flash drive and
then ejecting is the right way to go.

SP2 will be updated! SP3 is scheduled for release end of this year
(2007) or if MS pushes, sometime in 2008.
