CD drive will not open

My CD drive will not open and there is no light on, and when I push the
button to eject it still does not open. I have tried going into My Computer
and hitting the eject button. I have also tried restarting my computer. Any
ideas?

You might want to check the power connecter connecting to your CD Drive.
You'll have to open up your computer to check this. A quick way to eject a
CD tray in this situation is to stick a pinclip into the little hole under
the tray. Look carefully and do not be afraid to use a little force when
pushing in the clip.

If reconnecting the drive doesn't work, it's probably shot.

Warranty?

CD Drives are infamous for this. They're like light bulbs, some last
forever, some not long. Doesn't necessarily matter if you've used it
much or not.

First, Prove the slider isn't jammed, or to get out a CD:
There is a tiny pinhole on the front of the drive; hard to see, but it's
there. Use a straightened paper clip to push the button inside it - that
will release an internal catch and the drive slider should pop open for you.
If not, somethign is jammed inside it.

With power OFF and plug removed,
Open the computer and remove and replace both connectors to the drive.
Touch nothing else!
Power it back up and see if it works.
If not:
Check Device Manager to see if it's installed and listed there. Look at
Properties to see if it says it's working.

Report back with results.
