Saving MPEG Files

I have been trying to download an MPEG files. The only problem is that the
file ends with this type of extension - .MPG.001 - Therefore, the "Save file
type" is listed as a .002 Document. Media Player will not recognize this
file format, even if I remove the .002 from the file name after it has been
downloaded. Is there any way that I can change the file type when I am
saving it?

The files have been "split". The number is the numeric value of the
sequence. If a movie is broken into ten parts, it will consist of 11 files,
..000 through 010/ The .000 may have a different ending depending on the
program that was used to split it. You will need to use a joiner program to
join it, such as resume.exe or others.

The individual segments will not be recognized by most media player (as you
have seen). I don't know which is the best program to use to join the files
as I do the honest thing and buy my movies on DVD.
