Saving Emails without PST file

Greetings,

Well, you may not believe this one but someone in my current organization
has decided that no one will be allowed to save emails to PST files anymore.
Not on your local hard drive or a network drive. This is not a space issue.
They are saying its a legal issue. The question is how can I save emails
without PST files and still be able to retreive them and find them by topic
or sender? Can I do something with Sharepoint? I am a project manager so I
save every email that is project related. That's about 80% of everything.

Sharepoint 2007 is definitely one option. Another is to save the items to
the hard drive in *.MSG format. From there you can use desktop search
software (e.g. Windows Desktop Search) that contains a filter that will
index the *.MSG files on the drive. That should make searching things
extremely quick.

In any event, talk with the IT/Management folks describing your need. I'm
sure Managment will understand the need to increase the size quota of your
mailbox to retain project information.

Thanks for the "what" explanation. Now I need the "how" part. Is the .MSG
file created with the "Save As" command and the file format outlook unicode?
Where would I get information on how to send everything to Sharepoint? Is
there an add-on for that or would I have to program it? Any examples would be
great. I have also seen some third party products that will read and search
..msg files. That might be worthwhile. I just need to make sure I know how to
save properly.
