Saving emails out of .pst files?

Can you save emails outside of .pst files (safely, without
corruption)? We are having problems with users with
large .pst files and I was wondering if they could just
click and drag emails to a folder. Would it work long-
term?

Yes you can drag and drop e-mails into folders on the harddrive but the
preferred method would be to have users open a new .pst file and store the
e-mails in multiple .pst files. They can keep their current e-mails in the
active .pst file and then have a second or even third .pst file that they
use to store old e-mails. This would leave all of the messages stored in
.pst files and make them accessable through Outlook. To open a new .pst
file simply go to File -> New -> Personal Folder File and give the file a
name.

I hope this information is helpful.
