Saving Documents

When I go to save a document that I've been working on, rather than waiting
for me to find the right directory and file, if my cursor lands on another
file name, that name goes into the Save As box. Then I have to type in the
"real" name of the document which is extra work - and aggravates the heck out
of me.

This only started happening recently. Now I have to be real careful not to
let my cursor land on a file name (just casually land, not click on) or I
have to re-enter the real name. Before this started happening, my cursor
could touch any file name - and I would have to "click" on that name if I
wanted my file named the same. Otherwise, whatever I had named the document
would stay in the Save As box until I actually hit the Save button.

Any tips on how to change this from automatically happening every single
time I work in Word or Excel?

sounds like a hardware issue (i.e., there are laptops with really
sensitive touchpads and thus clicks can occur unintentionally).

It can also depend on how the touchpad is set up. It is possible to set
Windows to register a single click as a double-click and mere mousing over
something as selection (single click), which can complicate the issue.
