Save Excel File to be Read by Apple/Mac

Is there a way to save an Excel 2003 file so it can be read by an Apple
or Mac machine using their software?

If the Mac has XL98/01/v.X, save as a normal XL file. The file formats
are identical with WinXL97/00/02/03.

If the Mac has XL5, save as an XL97/5.0 file.
