"Save as" problem

I am running Vista Home Premium on a laptop with a 1.86GHz Core Solo
processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM and plenty of HD space. I have various (legal,
validated, activated) Office 2007 applications installed. Windows/Office
Update reports no updates to install.

Until recently, I had no problems. However, a friend sent me a Word 2003
document in an email. I tried to do a "Save as...", but Word hung. I was able
to do a normal "Save", but every time tried "Save as...", the application
hung. I found the same problem with Excel and Notepad, so it looks like a
Windows problem.

The file was from a trusted source, and Norton 360 reports no viruses on my
system. I can't swear the problem dates from receiving that file, but it's
certainly the first time I noticed it.

Can anybody please shed some light?

we ran into a similar problem on our xp machines using Office 07.
This turned out to be from the Live Meeting Word add-in. I dont know if you
use live meeting, but any type of add-in could be an issue. do you have the
same problem with other files recieved from other users?

I've seen this exact kind of behavior in WinXP when mapped drive were no longer
available. (seems it tries to scan all available drives to give a list, and if
one is not available it hangs)

Thanks for replying, Victor. I've been through the add-ins, and I don't see
Live Meeting anywhere. The only add-in I have enabled is the Person Name
smart tag, and that's been on since day 1. The "Save As" function seems to be
permanently down on all Office apps. Notepad, at least is now working.

The interesting thing is that Publisher, which I bought and installed
separately from Office Home and Student, has the same problem.
