Document saving

I have spent some while getting help from MS pros about being unable to save
documents in Word 2008 without resolution. I now find that Notepad will not
save, The program closes when I try a save. Presumably this must mean theat
the fault is in Vista not in Office. I think but am not sure that the problem
occurred after SP1 was automatically downloaded. Is re-installing Vista
likely to help? The problem did not come on after installing a new program so
I assume there is something wrong within Vista. I have tried to repair Vista.

Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop

I would do Error Checking on the drive, then try SFC.
Rightclick Drive icon in Explorer, Properties, Tools tab, Error Checking
Then run:
SFC /SCANNOW

Thanks for your help. I had already run scannow without the problem
resolving. I tried to follow the instructions in 929833 and finding the files
that could not be repaired by SFC revealed 8 lines in the command prompt none
of which seemed to show a comprehendable file address. I could not therefore
proceed. I suppose the best thing would be to reinstall Vista.
