SATA BIOS Update 3132 7.2.18

Last night I downloaded and installed the SATA BIOS 3132 Update 7.2.18
through Windows Update and installed it as I thought I should. Now my
computer won't boot and if I try to boot off the Windows XP CD-ROM, it tells
me that it can't locate any HD and hence cannot repair Windows.
PLEASE HELP!!!
 
Did you think of going into the motherboard's BIOS and verifying all the
devices were correct and if other items throughout the BIOS had been
modified?
