find it. I have checked the processes and can't find it.
I have checked the reg. and can't find it. Does anyone

You have a virus and/or malware on your computer. Scan with a current
antivirus program (meaning a version not earlier than 2002 and using
updated virus definitions). Also, remove spyware with Spybot Search &
Destroy from www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from
www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs before running
them. These programs are free, so run them both since they complement
each other. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal tools in
Safe Mode. You may also need to run CWShredder and HijackThis from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html . Please read the
instructions carefully. Also, make sure you've visited Windows Update
and applied all security patches. Do not install driver updates from
Windows Update. Make sure you are running a firewall.

I really appreciate your reply. I have Symantec AV
Corporate, updated. I have adaware and Spybot updated on
this WinXP Pro Pc. All tests came back clean. I have
updated from the Windows website and all of the security
patches are installed. I am completely out of ideas.
Thanks again for the reply.. Sincerely, Geoffrey.

Then you have some program that uses a legitimate sample.exe file that
is refusing to close at shutdown. You'll need to troubleshoot by having
Task Manager open and seeing what is running. Mr. Sengupta suggested
you try a clean boot and that would be a good idea, then adding one new
thing at a time to see what throws up the error.
