Safe Mode Reboot

When I try to reboot or shut down my computer in safe mode, it freezes up
and I have to turn the power off to shut down. I have no problem rebooting
or shutting the system down when in the normal operating mode. I have tried
all I know short of wiping and reinstalling, which is not an option right
now. Does anyone have any suggestions that I might try? Thanks in advance
for any and all help.

Considering that Safe Mode is for troubleshooting purposes only....and you
did not mention any other problems...So most people go to safe mode
what...once every 6 months.....I know I cannot remember the last time I
did..............why bother with it???
What does your event viewer say ..???

Along the same line why bother having an inflated spare tire in your
vehicle? When was the last time you needed one? Why bother with it?

Thanks for the response. The event viewer doesn't give me anything I can
see. Sometime I use the safe mode for removing software and an occasional
bad file. I don't use safe mode that often but just wanted to see if there
was something causing this that, I may have missed. Again thanks for the
responses.

Four points:

1. You say you've "tried all I know," but you haven't told us what
you've tried. When you ask for suggestions, to avoid having people
suggest things you've already tried, please tell us what they are in
advance.

2. The best reference for shutdown problems (not particularly for Safe
Mode) is http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

3. Most people use Safe Mode rarely, if at all, so this doesn't seem
like an earthshaking problem.

4. You say "reinstalling, which is not an option right now." I am
certainly not suggesting reinstalling, but I wanted to point out that
reinstalling *always* needs to be an option. You are *always*
susceptible to problems that can wipe out your entire drive, and
reinstalling will probably be your only option. If you haven't
protected yourself against that possibility, so that reinstalling *is*
an option, you are skating on very thin ice.

I'm not sure why it hangs while booting to safe mode. I would take a
look in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal

There might be something in there (incompatible driver, malware, rogue
service) that is preventing Safe Mode from booting.
