S Video resolution

I have 2 separate computers I can not get to work with S Video to TV
for the second monitor.

In both machines the lowest resolution the video cards will display is
800 x 600.

In one machine when I boot, the Windows splash screen will show on the
computer and the desktop, but when the computer finishes booting, I
get a message on the TV screen that the signal is unusable.

Is it possible that S Video is a lower resolution than 800 x 600?
Is there any way to make the video display 600 x 480?

I have probably spent more time trying to get them to work than I will
actually use them anyway, but I am on a quest to get them working.

Wanna bet? The resolutions offered is based on the connected monitor. This
is to protect the monitor from trying to run signals that will damage the
monitor. Apparently your PRIMARY monitor will only go as low as 800 X 600.
But your video card will display lower resolutions, if a connected monitor
supports lower resolutions.

OK, are you saying that windows displays on the TV momentarily? In that
case, you have to extend your desktop to the second monitor.

Yes, but the question is moot. If you can output 800 x 600 over S-video,
the image will appear "zoomed in" on the TV. You will see part of the
desktop, enlarged. In other words, while s-video is lower resolution, it
should still display if you have it set to 800. If all else is set right...

Well, the easiest way I know of is to tell windows that the second monitor
is a TV. The rest depends on how flexible your video card software is. I
hope you can choose different resolutions for each connected monitor.

I'm guessing your video card is ATI something or other. Nvidia software is
very intuitive for what you are trying to do. No guesswork required. -Dave

OK, are you saying that windows displays on the TV momentarily? In that
case, you have to extend your desktop to the second monitor.

What happens is that when I restart the computer using dual display,
the boot Windows splash screen shows up on both displays. This
display is (I think) 640 x 480.

After the computer boots, the screen mode switches to 1024 mode. That
is when the TV displays unusable signal.

I have the TV second display set to 800 mode but I wish I could try it
using 640 mode. The cards minimum resolution is 800 x 600

I believe S-Video could at least go 1024x768. That's what I got when I
used the S-Video OUT from a Radeon 9000 AGP display card.

That's what mine is set to, as I've got it run to an old CRT TV.
It's all configurable in my nVidia GUI control panel.

I believe S-Video could at least go 1024x768. That's what I got when I
used the S-Video OUT from a Radeon 9000 AGP display card.

That's the highest setting available on my GUI panel.
