S: right click on desktop opens start menu here?

Hello,

does anybody know about a windows9x tool, that does the Linux desktop
trick: you right click on the desktop, and the startup menu items
appears as if they had been opened from the start button.

I tried using two monitors, and it would be great if I didn't have to
switch to the main monitor just for the start button.

Sure, there is a start button on the keyboard, but even with opening
that way, choosing the menu items still means walking up and down with
the directional keys, or having to move the mouse to the first screen
AGAIN.

So, does anyone have infos?

TIA

Don't know about a program, but I created a shortcut to c:\windows\start
menu\programs to my desktop for that purpose.

I don't know if how it works with multiple monitors but the windows
powerpro will give you the ability to right click and get to the start
menu.

You can download it from www.windowspowerpro.com.

It is a little tricky to learn and setup but if you create a key/mouse
entry for right click on the desk and assign it the option of *Menu and
'show startmenu' it does work.

The LiteStep desktop (http://www.litestep.net) can do this, if the theme
you've installed on LiteStep has this feature (and there are some themes that
look like the normal Windows look, but with extended features).

The exact tool you want is called "Start or Switch" and is
a 20 kB download. It allows access to the start menu and
all running appications (including open dialogue boxes that
don't show up on the taskbar) from a right click on any or
all of the title bar, menu bar, anywhere or desktop.

The homepage for it seems to have vanished but a working
link is:

http://home.uwnet.nl/~hsbuik/sosmenu.zip

Win9x and WinNT4 the start menu lists where you click, but
on Win2K (don't know with XP) it appears in the normal
docked position.

Hope this helps.

Peter.

Thank you. This looks very much like what I had in mind. Power Pro is a
bit too large, and I couldn't get the hang of it; somehow it would only
work when a bar was placed in the midst of the screen, which doesn't
make sense to me. The biggest problem is that the docs weren't as easy
to understand as I would have wanted. The author seems to apply a non-
windows terminology.

This sosmenu tool seems to be quite popular in East Asia, according to
the sites listed by Google, but not all are accessable any more. Version
2.7a seems to be the most recent. Hopefully, it does the trick.
