Right-click desktop menu

Is there any way to customize the right-click menu that pops up when
clicking on an empty area of the desktop? I know that some programs
which add items to this menu, so it must be customisable. I'd like to
be able to add a list of frequently used programs here instead of
using icons on the desktop.

Add the programs but delete the ICON on the desktop. To access the program
click start --all programs.

Hi Axonymon,

Only shell extensions (.DLL) can be added there. Windows XP does not allow adding static menu items in the location you mention.

The link you gave is for the right-click context menu popup. Does the
same apply to the right-click menu that pops up when clicking on the
desktop?

You may wish to consider the following tiny freeware program I use
as an alternative for easy access to the programs of your choice.

RUNit
Company: -- Author: magister-lex
(Betaware) (free) (open source)
Windows OS: Windows 95/98/NT4
Languages: English

Description: RUNit is a simple but yet powerful launchpad. RUNit gives
you quick access to applications, documents, folders and shortcuts.
Unlike many other launch pads RUNit doesn't occupy any space on your
screen - you only see it when you actually use it. RUNit defines a "hot
area" on your screen where a click of the right mouse button makes the
RUNit launch-menu appear.

Home page:

download [ runit21beta6a.zip (66 KB)]

I have my RunIt set to pop-up when I press the Shift and Ctrl keys.
I used v 2.1Beta6a for years on Win98 and presently on WinXP SP2.
Zero problems.
