Most cameras have their own process to format the SD cards correctly.
Several manufacturers also state to never format SD cards with XP
since the format may be wrong for their cameras. Check with the maker
of your camera.

Contact the camera's manufacturer (web site or phone number.) Check
to see what is their recommendation for formatting the SD memory cards.

Are we to guess the make and type of the camera. Anyway the digis I have at the
moment have 2-3 choices on the menu. Mostly there is a tools menu where you will
find the format, otherwise go to view pictures on the LCD screen. You are now in
with a chance to have a choice there. However best of all - RTFM.
