all of a sudden my system runs chkdsk on startup...reports no errors of

Download a drive diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer's web
site. That will create a bootable floppy. Run the diagnostics from
there to check the drive.

Also go to Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
Click on "C" and scroll down to "Check Disk - Disk Checking Runs Upon
Boot" for some tips.

Please describe the way you are shutting down your machine.

Hope this helps.

try this, got it from another site and it works.....START RUN,,,type in CMD to bring up command box.....then type in fsutil/x c: now the c is my drive, you should replace this with the appriopriate letter for your pc.
the ''x'' tells it not to run chkdsk on boot up......:D
