Running userpasswords2 on Windows XP Home

R

Ralph

Using an administrator account on my Windows XP Home
Edition PC, I ran userpasswords2 against one of the
accounts. This yielded an error which I eventually found
in MCs knowledge base (article 817365).

However, now I cannot access the account I ran
userpasswords2 on. It's disappeared from the Welcome
Screen. However, I can see the user's profile folder in
Documents and Settings but access is denied. I can also
see the user profile in the User Profile Settings in the
Advanced tab in the System Properties dialog box. It's
out there I just can't get to it.

How do I undo the damage I caused by running
userpasswords2 against this user?

The default Administrator account is designed to disappear from the welcome
screen when another user in the administrative group is created. The reason
is that this account is intended for troubleshooting instead of everyday
use. It should be regarded as a spare account that is relatively simple
with no added extras.

You can use TweakUI for XP to have it displayed on the welcome screen once
again if that's what you prefer. TweakUI is one of the Power toys for XP.
For XP with SP1 installed:

If you do not have SP1, the earlier version can be found at:
